The build

What you get with a small business build

What is a small business website?

A focused site that covers the essentials: who you are, what you offer, proof you are credible, and how to reach you, without the cost or timeline of a large custom build. It is the right first website, or a replacement for a DIY site that is not pulling its weight.

What is included when I build your small business site?

You get a starter set of pages (home, about, services, contact, plus one or two more), a brand foundation of colours, fonts, logo usage and image style applied consistently, and a contact form that reaches your inbox. Basic on-page SEO and schema are in place, your Google Business Profile is set up or tidied, and analytics is connected so you can see what is working. It is built on WordPress with a light page builder, so you can edit text and images yourself.

Who it is best for

New businesses getting online for the first time, sole traders and small teams, and anyone on a DIY site (Wix, Squarespace, an old template) that looks dated or loads slowly. If you serve a local area and want to rank in map results, see the Local Business page; if you are ready to sell online, see the WooCommerce page.

Baked in

Fast and findable, not bolted on after.

Lean by default, so it's fast and cheaper

A small site with a light builder has little to slow it down. Every build targets 90+ on PageSpeed and passing Core Web Vitals. I handle image formats, lazy-loading, font loading and critical CSS on top.

Straight talk: desktop scores come back green. On mobile the lab throttles CPU and network hard, so Performance can land in the high 80s, the fast end of the "good" band, with load and layout stability still green. A smaller site has fewer places for speed to leak, so these usually hold up well. The screenshots are a real example.

SEO and AEO from the first commit

  • Clean semantic HTML and one clear H1 per page
  • JSON-LD schema per template (Service, Article, FAQ, Breadcrumb)
  • Per-page titles, meta and Open Graph
  • XML sitemap, image alt text, sensible internal linking
  • Answers written as real questions so AI engines can quote them

Questions

Small business sites, answered.

How much does a small business website cost?

Most run about $150 to $400 for a five-to-seven-page site. The number moves with page count, whether you have branding already, and how much content needs to be written.

How fast can it launch?

Two to four weeks once I have your content and branding. A cut-down one or two page site can go live faster.

Can I start small and add pages later?

Yes, that is the point. The site is built on a system, so a new page, a blog or an online store is an addition rather than a rebuild.

Do I need to provide the content?

Text and images help a lot and keep the cost down. If you do not have copy, I can draft it from a short call and your notes, for an added fee.

Can it grow into an online store?

Yes. It is WordPress, so adding WooCommerce later is straightforward. If you already know you will sell online soon, it can be worth starting on the WooCommerce path.

Do you provide support after launch?

Yes, either ad hoc or on a monthly retainer covering updates, backups, security and speed monitoring.

Cost

What it costs.

$18 / hour

A small business site typically runs about $150–$400. Fixed-price or hourly, both work through Upwork with escrow.

What moves the number

  • How many pages you need
  • Whether you have branding already or it is created from scratch
  • How much copy has to be written rather than supplied
  • Integrations: booking, newsletter, chat
  • Timeline: genuine rush work costs more
